Copyright
All cartoons are copyright of Slane Cartoons Limited and are original works created by freelance cartoonist Chris Slane over many years. Charging fees to professionals in this field supports the maintenance of this catalogue and the creation of new cartoons.
Image tracing
A commercial copyright enforcement service using special software sifts the internet for potentially unlicensed cartoons. If an incidence is identified and there is no existing arrangement an enforcement service will make contact, educate users about the need to pay for images and recoup an appropriate fee. They may enforce any given claims (e.g. cease and desist demands, compensation and reimbursement claims) referring to any copyright infringing use of the cartoons mentioned in their own name and at their own expense.
Cartoons recognised by other professionals
A large proportion of my clients are privacy professionals with a legal background who value the rights of creators as copyright owners and are very good about contacting me and paying an appropriate fee for use. Many will recognise my cartoons when used.
Watermarked cartoons
Permission is required before any further use. Watermarked cartoons are not intended for use or sharing.
License Cartoon for Your Use
To license a cartoon simply select cartoons you want, pay and download. All cartoons are tagged so they are searchable by keyword. Feel free to enquire about custom terms and discounts for bulk purchases. Terms are for agreed uses only and do not include on-selling or re-licensing to third parties.
Support creative efforts
As a full-time professional freelance artist, my cartoons represent time, effort, creative endeavour and intellectual property. Retaining copyright and charging for use enables maintenance of the existing catalogue, supports the creation of new work and covers time spent responding to enquiries.
Professionals working in the area of information privacy and security, both in the private sector and government sectors can enhance the materials they use with effective graphics. Many use cartoons in their their lectures and websites.
Royalties for the cartoonist
Cartoonstock deduct a percentage fee for their own services and pay remaining royalties to the cartoonist. Licensing cartoons directly via this website ensures the cartoonist gets a larger share.
Free Use
Unfortunately, I am unable to offer free use of cartoons or respond to such requests, due to the time involved and the need to protect relationships with existing customers.
Sharing
Please leave cartoons where you find them. Permission is required before any other use.
Chris Slane's privacy-oriented editorial cartoons are painfully funny!
